An album of newspaper and journal clippings from various sources (mainly British) including the London journal and the Illuustrated times, lithographs and correspondence relating to the settlement of Australia ca. 1786-1860. Includes 2 ms. letters from John George Hunter to his mother (from Cork, March 13, 1841 and from Melbourne, November 24, 1843), a specimen plate of Platycercus splendidus (Yellow mantled parrrot) from "The birds of Australia" by G.M. Mathews, portraits of James Cook, a chart of the trade winds and various scenic lithographs.

James Cook (b. November 7, 1728, Marton, Great Britan-d. February 14, 1779, Hawaii) was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. He became an apprentice to some shipowners in Whitby. In 1759 he became master of his own ship, the Northumberland. The following winter, while laid up in Halifax, he studied mathematics and attained a sound knowledge of astronomical navigation. Cook went on to become an eminent circumnavigator. Hunter, John George, 1888-1964

Dr. Hunter (1888-1964) was chief biologist on the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911-1914. In 1929 he was appointed the first full-time Medical Secretary, New South Wales Branch, British Medical Association. In 1934 he became Secretary to the Federal Council of the British Medical Association in Australia. He became the first Secretary-General of the Australian Medical Association in 1962.
